Affected crops: The primary host plant is corn (maize), although this beetle is known to feed on various other grasses, legumes, and even wild flora. Its polyphagous nature allows it to establish stable populations in diverse agro-ecosystems, making it a persistent challenge for farmers.

Biology and life cycle: The life cycle is characterized by a complete metamorphosis, consisting of eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults. Eggs are deposited in the soil near the root zone of host plants. The larvae emerge and start feeding on the roots immediately, which is the most destructive phase of their life cycle before they pupate and transform into the adult beetle form.
