The Southern corn rootworm (Diabrotica undecimpunctata) belongs to the family Chrysomelidae, order Coleoptera. It is a highly destructive agricultural pest primarily known for its impact on maize production. Despite its name, it is a versatile pest that can thrive in various agricultural environments across its range.

This beetle species displays a broad host range, attacking not only corn but also many other crops such as legumes, cucurbits, and various vegetables. Larvae are particularly damaging to the root systems of host plants, while the adults feed on foliage, pollen, and the silks of corn ears, significantly impacting plant health and yield potential.
