Systematic position. Disonycha conjugata belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Chrysomelidae (leaf beetles). These insects are known for their jumping ability, which is a characteristic feature of the tribe Alticini, making them efficient at colonizing new host plants across agricultural fields.

Host plants and damage. This pest primarily targets various Amaranthaceae family members and vegetable crops. Adult beetles feed on foliage, resulting in characteristic "shot-hole" damage or extensive skeletonization of leaves. This feeding behavior reduces the plant's photosynthetic capacity, which leads to stunted growth and reduced yields.

Biology and life cycle. The species undergoes a complete metamorphosis, including egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Eggs are deposited either in the soil or on the undersides of host leaves. Larvae develop in the soil, feeding on fine root systems, which can also cause damage to the underground parts of the plant. After pupation, adult beetles emerge to complete the cycle.

Economic impact. The economic damage caused by Disonycha conjugata is twofold: direct defoliation and the potential transmission of plant pathogens. High beetle populations can cause rapid stand reduction, especially in younger plants, leading to gaps in crop density and significant economic losses for producers.

Control measures. Management of this pest requires an integrated approach to maintain population levels below the economic injury threshold:

• Implement crop rotation to break the pest's life cycle.
• Practice mechanical control via timely cultivation to disturb soil-dwelling larval stages.
