Description

Systematic position: Disonycha eximia is a species within the order Coleoptera, belonging to the family Chrysomelidae (leaf beetles). As a specialized herbivore, it occupies a specific ecological niche associated with Amaranthaceae plants, often appearing in cultivated areas where these crops are established.

Host plants and damage: This pest primarily targets various species of the genus Amaranthus. It affects both decorative garden varieties and agricultural crops grown for grain or forage, causing significant stress to the host plants during their vegetative growth stages.

Biology and lifecycle: The lifecycle follows a complete metamorphosis pattern: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Adults emerge from overwintering sites in the soil, feed on foliage, and mate.
