This species primarily feeds on the succulent tissues of grapevines, including young leaves, tender shoots, and developing inflorescences. While it specializes in Vitis vinifera, it can occasionally be found on other perennial crops, making it a target for integrated pest management programs in various regions.

The biological cycle of Drepanothrips reuteri involves several developmental stages: eggs are laid into plant tissues, followed by two larval stages, prepupal, and pupal stages, before emerging as adults. Overwintering occurs in the adult stage, typically sheltered within the crevices of the vine bark or in debris located near the base of the plant.

Damage symptoms are distinct and often lead to significant cosmetic and quantitative losses. Affected leaves exhibit curling, discoloration, and necrotic patches. When the pest feeds on clusters, it can cause fruit scarring, which manifests as corky layers on the berry skin, rendering the fruit unsuitable for fresh market sale or premium wine production.
