The Eleodes militaris beetle belongs to the Tenebrionidae family, within the order Coleoptera. These insects are well-adapted to arid environments, functioning primarily as scavengers of decaying organic matter, but under certain conditions, they can become significant agricultural pests that threaten crop development.

This pest species poses a risk to a wide variety of cultivated crops, including wheat, corn, and various vegetables. When environmental conditions lead to a scarcity of natural food sources, both the adult beetles and their larvae may feed on crop tissues, causing direct damage to the developing root systems and seedling stalks during the critical early stages of growth.

The larvae, commonly referred to as false wireworms, feed on organic matter and plant roots.
