Enochrus testaceus is a member of the Hydrophilidae family, commonly known as water scavenger beetles. While many species in this family are considered beneficial as decomposers, certain populations can cause economic damage in specialized aquatic agriculture.
The pest primarily affects aquatic plants and young seedlings in nurseries or flooded fields such as rice paddies. Adult beetles and their larvae feed on tender tissues, including leaves and stems, which can weaken the plants significantly during their most vulnerable growth stages.
