Ephialtes manifestator is a species of parasitic wasp belonging to the family Ichneumonidae within the order Hymenoptera. Unlike herbivorous pests, this insect acts as a specialized parasitoid, meaning it targets and kills other insects rather than consuming plant tissues directly.

It does not directly damage fruit or vegetable crops. However, it is closely associated with various wood-boring pests, such as longhorn beetles and wood wasps. Because these pests inhabit the interior of tree trunks and branches, the presence of Ephialtes manifestator serves as a warning sign for arborists and gardeners that trees may be suffering from internal structural infestation.

The biology of this wasp is fascinating due to its specialized anatomy. The female is equipped with a very long ovipositor, which she uses to drill through thick bark and dense wood.
