Description
Epicampoptera strandi is a specialized insect pest known for its destructive impact on coffee plantations, particularly in African growing regions. This species belongs to the order Lepidoptera and the family Geometridae. As a defoliator, it poses a significant threat to the physiological health of coffee trees, potentially leading to substantial economic losses for growers if not managed properly.
The primary host crops for Epicampoptera strandi are members of the Coffea genus, specifically Coffea arabica and Coffea canephora. The larvae of this moth feed exclusively on the leaves of these trees. In cases of severe infestation, the pest can strip entire branches of foliage, which weakens the trees and hampers their ability to produce healthy, commercially viable coffee cherries.
