The tuber flea beetle (Epitrix tuberis) is a destructive pest belonging to the Chrysomelidae family, order Coleoptera. It is recognized as a significant threat to potato production due to the direct damage larvae cause to tubers, which significantly reduces yield quality and marketability.

The primary host for this beetle is the potato plant, but it also attacks other solanaceous crops including tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers. Furthermore, various weed species within the Solanaceae family serve as secondary hosts, allowing the beetle population to survive and multiply outside of commercial crop fields.

The life cycle of Epitrix tuberis involves eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults. Overwintering adults emerge in the spring to feed on foliage. Females deposit eggs in the soil around the base of the plant. Upon hatching, the larvae migrate into the soil to feed on developing tubers, excavating intricate tunnels that characterize the damage caused by this pest.
