Description

The Wall bagworm (Eumasia parietariella) is a member of the order Lepidoptera and belongs to the family Psychidae, commonly known as bagworm moths. While not considered a primary agricultural threat, it can occasionally damage various ornamental plants and orchard trees.

This species primarily feeds on lichens, algae, and decaying organic matter found on tree bark, stone surfaces, and walls. However, if these food sources are depleted, larvae may graze on the soft tissues of leaves, buds, and young shoots of neighboring plants, causing localized damage.

The biology of Eumasia parietariella is defined by the construction of a portable protective case, or 'bag', made of silk and debris. The larva lives inside this case throughout its development, providing both protection from predators and camouflage against the substrates it feeds on.
