Falsogastrallus sauteri is a wood-boring insect belonging to the Anobiidae family within the order Coleoptera. Recognized as a significant structural pest, this beetle is known for its ability to infest and degrade seasoned wood, causing substantial damage to wooden components in various agricultural and commercial environments.

The primary hosts of this species include a wide range of dry hardwoods and structural timber. By boring into wooden beams, supports, and decorative items, the beetle compromises the integrity of infrastructure. While not a direct threat to living crops, its activity can devastate equipment, storage facilities, and agricultural sheds, creating significant maintenance issues.

The biology of Falsogastrallus sauteri is defined by its cryptic larval stage. Females lay eggs in surface cracks or pores of the wood. Upon hatching, larvae penetrate the timber, creating intricate tunnels and galleries. This stage may last several years, depending on environmental conditions, making the pest extremely difficult to eradicate once an infestation is well-established.

The damage is characterized by a network of internal galleries filled with fine boring dust, known as frass, and small, circular exit holes on the surface created by emerging adults. As the larvae consume the wood from the inside out, the structural integrity of the timber is severely weakened, often leading to total collapse if left untreated for an extended period.
