Blueberry thrips (Frankliniella vaccinii) is a member of the Thysanoptera order and the Thripidae family. As a significant agricultural pest, it primarily targets plants within the Ericaceae family, often causing severe economic losses in commercial blueberry and bilberry production.

The insect feeds on the succulent parts of the plant, including young leaves, buds, and flowers. By using its rasping-sucking mouthparts, it pierces plant cells to extract sap, which disrupts the normal development of the growing tips and reproductive organs.

The biology of Frankliniella vaccinii is characterized by a high reproductive rate during favorable weather conditions. The development cycle includes eggs, two larval stages, prepupal and pupal stages, and adults. Overwintering typically occurs in the soil or beneath leaf litter, allowing the pest to emerge in early spring.
