Description
The genus Glypta belongs to the order Hymenoptera and the family Ichneumonidae. These insects are specialized parasitoids that play a significant role in agricultural ecosystems by regulating the populations of various Lepidoptera species, which are often considered primary pests in commercial farming.
The primary hosts for Glypta species are larvae of moths and butterflies that feed on fruits, foliage, and vegetables. By injecting an egg into the host's body, the female ensures that the developing larva has immediate access to food, eventually killing the host before it can reach the adult stage and reproduce.
The biological cycle of these wasps is strictly synchronized with the life cycle of their hosts.
