Gnorimoschema gallaesolidaginis, commonly known as the goldenrod gall moth, is a specialized moth species within the family Gelechiidae. This insect is primarily recognized for its unique ecological niche as a gall-former on plants belonging to the Solidago (goldenrod) genus.

The host range is largely confined to various species of goldenrod, including Solidago canadensis. While it is not considered a threat to standard agricultural commodities, it is a subject of study in ecological research and can impact ornamental goldenrod plantings or wild populations in native plant restoration projects.

The life cycle begins with overwintering eggs located on plant stems or debris. Upon hatching in the spring, the larvae bore into the soft tissue of the developing stem. Their feeding activity triggers a specific physiological response in the plant, resulting in the development of an enlarged, hollow gall that provides food and shelter for the growing larva.

Damage symptoms are characterized by distinct swellings or galls on the stem, which can cause stunted growth and reduced seed production for the affected plant. Although the damage is typically cosmetic for the plant population, significant infestations can weaken the vigor of individual stems and affect the aesthetic quality of ornamental garden plots.

Management strategies focus on cultural and mechanical control. Since the larvae remain protected inside the gall for the duration of their development, chemical pesticides are generally ineffective. The most practical approach is to prune and destroy the infested stems during the fall or winter months before the adult moths emerge, effectively breaking the pest's reproductive cycle.
