Halictophagus is a genus of insects belonging to the order Strepsiptera and the family Halictophagidae. These organisms are highly specialized obligate endoparasites, predominantly targeting various species of leafhoppers (Cicadellidae) and solitary bees, which places them in a complex relationship with agroecosystems.

The life cycle of Halictophagus is characterized by extreme sexual dimorphism. Adult males are free-living, winged insects with a short lifespan dedicated to finding females, whereas females are neotenic and remain entirely within the host’s body, providing nutrients to their developing offspring until they emerge as first-instar larvae.

Their impact on agriculture is multifaceted.
