The Sycamore tussock moth (scientific name: Halysidota harrisii) is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae and the subfamily Arctiinae. This insect is a specialist herbivore, primarily known for its association with trees in the genus Platanus, particularly the American sycamore.

The host range of Halysidota harrisii is quite specific, focusing on sycamore species. These insects are commonly found in North American urban environments, parks, and riparian areas where sycamore trees are abundant. Due to their feeding habits, they are considered significant pests in horticultural settings.

The biology of the moth involves a metamorphosis process with multiple generations per year in warmer climates. Females lay clusters of eggs on the underside of leaves. Upon hatching, the larvae, which are covered in long, dense, often irritating hairs, feed gregariously during their early instars before spreading out across the host tree.
