Several species within this genus are recognized as significant agricultural pests, particularly Helcystogramma triannulella, which is known for infesting sweet potato crops and other related plant species across various regions.

Systematically, this genus is classified under the order Lepidoptera. While the adult moths are primarily nocturnal, the larval stage (caterpillars) is the focus of agricultural pest management.
