The bloody-red mysid (Hemimysis lamornae) is a small crustacean belonging to the order Mysida and the family Mysidae. While primarily studied by limnologists, this species is classified as an invasive pest in various aquatic environments, where it disrupts local food webs and negatively impacts fish farming operations.

The species primarily affects aquaculture ponds and managed water bodies. By consuming vast amounts of zooplankton, Hemimysis lamornae depletes the primary food source for juvenile fish. This competition significantly stunts the growth rates of valuable fish species, leading to measurable economic losses for commercial fish farms.

The biology of this species is characterized by high reproductive capacity and adaptability. Females carry their developing brood within a marsupium, which protects the young from environmental stressors and predators during early stages. This reproductive strategy enables the population to expand rapidly in favorable conditions.
