The genus Hemiteles belongs to the order Hymenoptera, family Ichneumonidae. These insects are well-known parasitoids. In agricultural contexts, they are frequently identified as hyperparasites, meaning they target the natural enemies of crop pests, thereby disrupting biological control programs in greenhouse and field environments.
Hemiteles does not damage plant tissues directly. However, it is considered a pest of biological control. By attacking the larvae of beneficial parasitoid wasps that control aphids, whiteflies, or lepidopterans, it indirectly contributes to the increase of pest populations, which eventually leads to significant crop damage.
