Systematic position: Hoplolaimus pararobustus is classified within the phylum Nematoda, order Tylenchida, and family Hoplolaimidae. It is a well-known plant-parasitic nematode characterized by a strong, well-developed stylet, which is the primary tool for puncturing plant cell walls during feeding.
Host range: This nematode is a significant polyphage, meaning it attacks a diverse array of plant species. It is particularly destructive to tropical and subtropical crops, including bananas, plantains, sugarcane, citrus, and various legumes. Its ability to infest a wide variety of plants makes it a major concern for global agricultural systems.
Biology and life cycle: The lifecycle of H. pararobustus consists of an egg stage, four larval stages, and an adult stage. Being a migratory semi-endoparasite, the nematode can penetrate into the root tissue or reside on the root surface.
