Hyalarcta is a genus of moths belonging to the family Psychidae, commonly known as bagworm moths or case moths. These insects are distinguished by the larval stage, during which they construct durable, portable cases made of silk interwoven with plant debris, such as leaves, twigs, or bark, providing essential protection from predators and environmental stressors.
These pests predominantly affect a variety of woody plants, including ornamental trees, shrubs, and forest species. While they are often associated with Australian flora such as eucalyptus and acacia, they can also pose threats to various broad-leaved trees in different geographic regions, leading to localized damage in gardens, nurseries, and managed landscapes.
The biology of Hyalarcta is defined by a unique life cycle. Females are often wingless and remain within their protective cases throughout their adult lives.
