The Hop snout moth (Hypena rostralis) is a moth belonging to the order Lepidoptera and the family Noctuidae. It is recognized as a specific pest of hops (Humulus lupulus). Although it is not always classified as a primary threat in all regions, its presence can significantly impact the health and productivity of hop yards.

This pest primarily attacks hop plants. The larvae feed on the foliage, and in cases of high population density, they can cause substantial defoliation. Damage to the leaves hinders the plant's ability to produce energy, which is essential for the maturation of the hop cones, the primary harvestable product.

The life cycle of Hypena rostralis includes four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, and adult. Adult moths hibernate during the winter in protected environments such as bark crevices, leaf litter, or farm structures. As temperatures rise in spring, they emerge to lay eggs on the host plants.
