This insect is easily recognized by its robust, slightly flattened body and wing covers that give it an appearance similar to a small beetle or a humpbacked cicada, allowing it to blend perfectly into the bark of its host trees.
This pest primarily attacks various deciduous trees and shrubs, showing a marked preference for fruit-bearing species such as apple, pear, and plum, as well as forest trees like oaks. By feeding on the sap of these plants, the insect can cause significant stress, particularly in younger specimens that have less resilience to nutrient loss.
