Kleemannia

Kleemannia is a genus of mites belonging to the family Ameroseiidae, within the order Mesostigmata. These mites are primarily known for their association with organic substrates, stored products, and various plant species where they can behave as opportunistic pests or fungi feeders.

These pests primarily affect indoor agricultural environments, including greenhouses, nurseries, and storage facilities. They can thrive on diverse crops, particularly affecting ornamental plants and vegetables, where they infiltrate the foliage and root systems, causing stress to the plant.

The biology of Kleemannia is highly dependent on humidity levels. Their lifecycle consists of egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph, and adult stages. Under ideal conditions—high humidity and warm temperatures—they reproduce rapidly, allowing populations to reach damaging levels within a very short period of time.

Damage caused by these mites includes the destruction of plant cell tissues, resulting in stunted growth, leaf discoloration, and necrotic spots. Beyond direct feeding damage, their presence often creates entry points for various bacterial and fungal pathogens, which can severely compromise the plant's health and overall market value.
