The Small brown planthopper (Laodelphax striatellus) is a significant agricultural pest belonging to the order Hemiptera and the family Delphacidae. This insect is widely recognized for its destructive capacity, particularly in regions where rice and various small grain cereals are intensively cultivated.

This pest primarily infests crops such as rice, wheat, barley, and oats. In addition to cultivated cereals, it utilizes a wide range of wild grasses as host plants. These wild hosts play a critical role in the insect's survival, acting as reservoirs during non-crop seasons and facilitating the spread to agricultural fields.
