Lemophagus curtus

Lemophagus curtus is a specialized species of parasitoid wasp belonging to the family Ichneumonidae. It serves as an essential natural enemy of the lily beetle (Lilioceris lilii), which is one of the most destructive pests for plants within the Liliaceae family, particularly lilies and fritillaries.

The host range of Lemophagus curtus is specifically tied to the larval stages of the lily beetle. Consequently, the presence of this wasp is primarily observed in gardens, parks, and botanical collections where lily species are cultivated and where Lilioceris lilii populations are present.

The biology of this parasitoid is synchronized with its host. The female wasp locates larvae of the lily beetle and deposits eggs within them.
