Leucoma subvitrea is a species of moth belonging to the Erebidae family. As a significant agricultural and forestry pest, it is known for its ability to cause extensive foliage damage to various deciduous trees, making it a critical subject for integrated pest management in orchards and silviculture.

The host range of Leucoma subvitrea is primarily concentrated on broad-leaved trees. Fruit trees such as apples, pears, and plums are frequently infested. Additionally, the pest thrives on common forest species like poplars, willows, and birches, which often serve as primary sources for re-infestation of nearby cultivated areas.

The life cycle typically involves overwintering as larvae in protective cocoons hidden within bark crevices or branch forks. As spring temperatures rise, the larvae emerge to feed on fresh buds and expanding leaves. This synchronized emergence with the host plant's growth stage allows them to cause immediate physiological stress to the trees.

Damage caused by this pest is characterized by severe defoliation. Young larvae often begin by skeletonizing leaves, while older stages consume entire leaves, leaving only main veins intact.
