Licinus punctulatus is a species of ground beetle (family Carabidae, order Coleoptera). While ground beetles are generally recognized as beneficial predators, specific species like Licinus punctulatus can occasionally exhibit harmful behavior in agricultural systems, particularly when their natural prey sources are scarce or environmental conditions favor their population growth.

The morphology of this beetle is typical for the genus: a robust, dark-colored body with distinctive punctate elytra. They are nocturnal insects, spending their daylight hours hidden under soil debris, leaf litter, or within crevices in the soil. Their presence is often correlated with moist habitats, making them common in fields near wooded areas or riparian zones.

The damage caused by these beetles primarily affects the early stages of crop development. They feed on the stems and leaves of young seedlings, often causing structural damage that inhibits photosynthesis and plant vigor. This feeding behavior can lead to reduced plant stands in cereal crops and vegetables, directly impacting final yield potential.

The life cycle involves a complete metamorphosis. Adults overwinter in the soil, emerging in spring as temperatures rise.
