Ligdia is a genus of moths belonging to the family Geometridae within the order Lepidoptera. These insects are recognized as specialized defoliators that can affect various types of woody plants, particularly those within the Rosaceae family and Euonymus shrubs.
The host plants often include species like Euonymus europaeus and various fruit-bearing trees. During their larval stage, the caterpillars feed extensively on the foliage, which is the primary source of nutrition required for their transition into the pupal phase and subsequent metamorphosis.
The biology of Ligdia involves a distinct seasonal pattern. The pest typically overwinters as a pupa, sheltered within the soil or amongst leaf litter. As spring temperatures rise, the adults emerge to mate and lay eggs on the leaves of host plants, starting the life cycle anew.
