The primary crop impacted by Limnodrilus socialis is rice (Oryza sativa). The pest thrives in the submerged, organic-rich environments typical of traditional paddy cultivation. It targets the plant during the critical establishment phase, when the seedlings are highly susceptible to disturbances in the soil layer immediately surrounding their root systems.

The biology of these worms is characterized by rapid reproduction rates and the ability to thrive in low-oxygen benthic environments. They form dense, colonial aggregations in the silt, which is the origin of their name. Their life cycle relies on continuous moisture, and they are capable of producing numerous egg cocoons within the soil substrate.
