The Ragwort flea beetle, scientifically known as Longitarsus jacobaeae, belongs to the family Chrysomelidae within the order Coleoptera. This small beetle is recognized as a specialized herbivore that focuses its life cycle on specific host plants, primarily within the genus Senecio.
The primary host plants for this species are common ragwort and related wild vegetation.
