The Apulian tarantula (Lycosa tarentula) is a prominent spider species within the Lycosidae family, commonly known as wolf spiders. While they are not herbivorous, their complex burrowing behavior and predation habits make them a notable presence in many agrarian ecosystems.

The biology and lifecycle of Lycosa tarentula are characterized by their dependence on deep vertical burrows. These structures serve as protection from environmental extremes and predators. During the reproductive cycle, females exhibit maternal care by carrying their eggs and spiderlings, which allows the species to maintain stable populations even in disturbed environments like cultivated fields.

Furthermore, their presence creates a safety concern for farm workers.
