Systematic position. Lymantria serva is a member of the order Lepidoptera, family Erebidae, and subfamily Lymantriinae. These moths are characterized by specialized morphological features that allow them to thrive in diverse ecosystems. Biology and life cycle. The life cycle follows a complete metamorphosis pattern: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa, and adult. Eggs are typically laid in masses on host plants, protected by scales from the female's abdomen. Larvae undergo several molts, increasing their consumption rate with each stage. Pupation usually occurs within silk-lined cocoons attached to twigs or trunk crevices, where they transition into the adult moth stage.
