Margaridisa is a genus of insects belonging to the Margarodidae family, commonly known as ground pearls. These specialized pests are recognized for their subterranean lifestyle, feeding primarily on the roots of woody plants. Due to their hidden nature within the soil profile, they pose a significant challenge to farmers and nursery managers who may not notice an infestation until irreversible damage occurs.

These pests predominantly affect vineyards and perennial fruit trees. By attaching themselves to the roots, both nymphs and females extract essential fluids, which directly impacts the plant's nutrient uptake capabilities. Vineyards are particularly vulnerable, as these insects can persist in the soil for several seasons, complicating replanting efforts.

The biology of Margaridisa is marked by a unique lifecycle that includes a dormant cyst stage. This stage is highly resistant to environmental stress and conventional contact insecticides, making it difficult to eradicate completely. The lifecycle shifts from sedentary feeding phases to mobile crawler stages, which are the primary means of dispersal within a plantation or across fields.
