The primary host plants for this moth include various deciduous tree species, most notably oaks. The lifecycle begins with the adult moth laying eggs on the surface of young stems or foliage. The larvae, upon hatching, immediately bore into the plant tissue, creating long, winding mines. This behavior allows them to feed on internal tissues while remaining protected from environmental factors and many external predators.
Biological development occurs throughout the growing season, typically consisting of several generations per year depending on the climate. The larva undergoes several instars within the mine, continuously expanding the network of tunnels. Once larval development is complete, the insect leaves the mine to pupate in a sheltered area, such as a folded leaf or a crevice in the bark, before emerging as an adult to restart the cycle.
