Description
Meloidogyne jianyangensis is a species of plant-parasitic nematode within the order Tylenchida and the family Meloidogynidae. These microscopic organisms are recognized as significant agricultural pests, capable of causing severe damage to a wide range of horticultural and field crops by parasitizing their root systems.
The host range of this nematode is primarily focused on vegetable crops, including tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. It is particularly problematic in greenhouse environments, where stable temperature and moisture conditions create an optimal habitat for its rapid multiplication and year-round infection cycle.
The life cycle of the nematode begins with the invasion of second-stage juveniles (J2) into the roots of the host plant. Once established inside, the juveniles induce physiological changes in the plant tissue, leading to the formation of specialized feeding sites known as giant cells, which facilitate the parasite's development into an adult sedentary female.
