This rodent is considered a significant pest in agricultural settings. It targets a variety of crops, including cereals and melons. Furthermore, the tamarisk jird poses a severe threat to orchards and reforestation projects, as it habitually gnaws on the roots and stems of young saplings, often causing widespread plant mortality.
The biology of this species is marked by high nocturnal activity and the construction of complex burrow systems. These burrows feature multiple entrances and chambers used for both nesting and food storage. The reproductive potential is high, with females producing several litters during the warmer months, leading to rapid population spikes when environmental conditions are suitable.
