Micrapate humeralis is a species of beetle belonging to the Bostrichidae family, commonly known as auger beetles or false powderpost beetles. These insects are recognized for their distinct morphology, where the pronotum is hood-shaped, effectively covering the head. They are specialized wood-boring pests that occupy a significant niche in forest and orchard ecosystems.

The host range of Micrapate humeralis includes a variety of deciduous trees, shrubs, and woody ornamentals. They typically target stressed, weakened, or dying branches. By attacking these plants, they contribute to the further decline of the host tree, often acting as secondary pests that exploit the tree's inability to defend itself due to environmental stress or existing injuries.

The biology of these beetles is centered on boring into the wood to lay eggs. Once the eggs hatch, the larvae tunnel through the sapwood and heartwood, feeding on the cellulose-rich tissues. This internal development phase makes the pest difficult to detect in the early stages of infestation, as the exterior surface of the bark may appear relatively intact for a significant duration.

The damage caused by Micrapate humeralis is primarily internal. Extensive tunneling disrupts the vascular system of the branches, leading to a restricted supply of water and nutrients. Consequently, affected branches may wither and die back. In ornamental or fruit trees, this can result in structural failure of branches, reduced vigor, and a significant decrease in overall yield and aesthetic quality.
