Micrapate xyloperthoides is a species of beetle belonging to the Bostrichidae family, commonly known as auger beetles or false powderpost beetles. These insects are classified within the order Coleoptera. They are recognized for their specialized ability to bore into plant tissue, making them significant pests in both agricultural and forestry sectors.

This pest primarily affects a variety of woody plants, including grapevines and various species of fruit trees. It is particularly drawn to stems and branches that are stressed or weakened. By boring into these structures, the beetles disrupt the vascular tissue of the plant, which often leads to branch dieback, structural instability, and in severe cases, the death of the host plant.

The biology of Micrapate xyloperthoides revolves around its wood-boring life cycle. Female beetles deposit their eggs into crevices on the bark or existing holes in the wood. Upon hatching, the larvae tunnel deep into the woody tissue, consuming it as they grow.
