Systematic position: The English grain aphid (Sitobion avenae, formerly Microsiphum granarium) belongs to the order Hemiptera and the family Aphididae. It is a cosmopolitan pest that causes significant economic losses to cereal production by directly damaging plant tissues and transmitting viral diseases.

Host crops: This aphid species primarily infests small grain cereals. Wheat is the most common host, followed by barley, oats, rye, and triticale. It can also survive on various wild grasses that act as reservoirs for the pest when primary crops are not available.

Biology and life cycle: The species exhibits a complex life cycle involving both sexual and asexual reproduction.
