Mirificarma mulinella is a moth species belonging to the family Gelechiidae, recognized as a potential agricultural pest. Although often overlooked due to its small size, it plays a significant role in causing physiological stress to certain host plants, primarily within the Solanaceae family.

This pest is particularly known to infest potato crops and wild nightshade relatives. The larvae are the primary damaging stage, feeding voraciously on the leaf tissues. Their feeding habits can lead to a substantial loss of green leaf area, which is vital for the plant's metabolic processes and the development of tubers.

The life cycle typically involves several generations per year depending on the climate. The eggs are usually deposited on the undersides of leaves. After hatching, the larvae begin to mine the leaf tissue or create protective webs between leaves. The resulting impact on yield is manifested through reduced tuber size and lower overall market quality, as the plant lacks the energy reserves to complete its growing cycle properly.

Cultural practices such as crop rotation, deep plowing to disrupt the pupation sites in the soil, and the rigorous control of weed hosts are essential. When populations reach economic threshold levels, localized applications of insecticides targeting the larval stage are recommended for effective mitigation.
