Monochirus is a genus of insects recognized in agronomy as potential pests affecting various agricultural and ornamental plants. Taxonomically, this object belongs to the order Coleoptera and the family Curculionidae (weevils). These insects are equipped with specialized mouthparts designed for chewing, allowing them to cause significant mechanical damage to plant tissues throughout their life cycle.

The host range of Monochirus includes various vegetable and green crops, which are particularly vulnerable during their initial growth stages. The pests feed on foliage, stems, and sometimes roots, which can lead to rapid wilting of seedlings.
