By colonizing the benthic zone of tanks and ponds, Nebalia bipes may shift its diet towards live plant tissues if the surrounding organic detritus is insufficient, causing localized damage to the crop.

The life cycle of this species is characterized by direct development. Females carry their eggs within a brood pouch beneath the carapace, protecting the offspring until they are fully developed juveniles.
