Nemapogon is a genus of moths belonging to the family Tineidae. These insects are widely recognized as pests of stored products, with several species causing significant economic damage to agricultural commodities. They are characterized by their ability to thrive in enclosed environments such as silos, warehouses, and mushroom cultivation houses, where they feed on dry organic matter.

The diet of the Nemapogon moth is diverse, including cereals, legumes, dried fruits, and various medicinal herbs. In the mushroom industry, they are particularly troublesome; larvae bore into the caps and stalks of mushrooms like oyster and button mushrooms. This feeding behavior not only destroys the crop but also introduces pathogens that lead to rapid rot and contamination of the growing substrate.

The life cycle of the Nemapogon moth consists of the egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. Females lay eggs on or near the food source. Upon hatching, the larvae immediately begin feeding and producing silk webbing, which binds the infested material together.
