This pest is a significant threat to various agricultural crops, specifically targeting plants with bulbs, corms, and fleshy root systems, causing substantial qualitative and quantitative losses in production.

The host range of this nematode includes a variety of ornamental bulbous plants such as tulips, narcissi, and gladioli, as well as several horticultural crops like garlic and strawberries. By invading the plant tissues, the nematodes feed on cell contents, which disrupts normal development and stunts the growth of the infested plants.

The biological cycle of Nothotylenchus acris is highly dependent on environmental conditions. It undergoes several developmental stages, including egg, four larval stages, and adults.
