Odacantha melanura is a beetle belonging to the Carabidae family, order Coleoptera. While most ground beetles are beneficial predators in agroecosystems, this specific species is known for its association with wetland vegetation and its potential to act as a pest, particularly affecting plants within the Poaceae family that grow in damp conditions.

This pest is primarily found in wetlands, riverbanks, and reed beds. It causes damage to plants like common reed (Phragmites australis) and may occasionally move into nearby agricultural fields, particularly cereal crops planted close to water sources.
