Spiller's thrips (Othianaphothrips spilleri) is an insect species belonging to the order Thysanoptera and the family Thripidae. As a significant agricultural pest, it is primarily known for infesting ornamental and greenhouse crops. Its small size and cryptic habits make early detection a challenge for growers.

The host range of this thrips species includes a variety of decorative plants. It prefers to inhabit the undersides of leaves and sheltered spaces such as developing flower buds. By causing direct physical damage to plant tissues, this insect disrupts the plant's metabolic processes and reduces its overall vigor.

The biological cycle of this pest involves several stages: egg, two larval instars, prepupa, pupa, and adult. The lifecycle is highly dependent on environmental factors, particularly temperature and humidity. Higher temperatures in greenhouses significantly accelerate the developmental rate, leading to potential outbreaks in a relatively short period.

Damage is characterized by silvering or stippling on leaf surfaces, which is caused by the emptying of individual plant cells.
