Oxydia is a genus of moths belonging to the family Geometridae. These insects are recognized as significant pests in various agricultural and forestry systems, particularly in tropical regions. Among the members of this genus, Oxydia vesulia is notable for its ability to cause severe economic losses by damaging foliage on commercial plantations.

Systematically, Oxydia is classified under the order Lepidoptera, family Geometridae. The larvae, commonly known as inchworms or loopers, are characterized by their unique locomotion, where they move by extending the body forward and bringing the posterior end forward, forming a loop. This behavior is a diagnostic feature of the family.

The primary host plants for Oxydia include eucalyptus and various fruit trees. The larvae are voracious feeders and can strip entire branches or tree canopies of their leaves in a short period. This extensive defoliation prevents proper photosynthesis, causing a significant reduction in the tree's health, yield, and overall survival rate.
