Pachypappella is a genus of insects belonging to the family Pemphigidae, known for causing significant damage to various species of coniferous trees, particularly spruce. These pests are classified as aphids and are characterized by their ability to thrive on host plants by extracting essential phloem sap.
These pests primarily target young needles and succulent shoots. Due to their small size and the fact that they often inhabit the inner canopy or sheltered areas of the tree, infestations can easily go unnoticed until significant damage to the plant's health has already occurred.
The life cycle of Pachypappella is closely synchronized with the growth stages of the host tree. Overwintering occurs primarily as eggs deposited in the bark crevices of the trunk.
